🏕️ Troop 9 Great Wilderness Trek & Campout 🏕️
📅 Date: May 16-18, 2025
📍 Location: Bear Creek Wilderness Reserve, Green Mountain National Park
🎯 Theme: “Into the Wild: The Ultimate Trekking Experience”
Troop 9 is heading deep into the wilderness for an unforgettable Trek & Campout! Scouts will test their endurance, navigation, and survival skills as they embark on a 15-mile backpacking adventure, cook meals on the trail, and experience the beauty of the great outdoors.
This event is designed to challenge scouts while reinforcing the core principles of self-reliance, teamwork, and leadership.
⏳ 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Check-in & Gear Check
🔥 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM: Campfire Cooking (Scouts prepare their own meals)
🌙 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Orientation & Route Planning Session
🔦 10:00 PM: Lights Out
🥾 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Breakfast & Final Gear Prep
🗺️ 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Wilderness Navigation Trek (Scouts must use maps & compasses to find checkpoints!)
🍽️ 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Trail Lunch & Rest Stop
⛰️ 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Survival Skills Workshops (Includes water purification, fire-building without matches, and emergency shelters)
🏕️ 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: Trail Camp Setup & Cooking Challenge
🔥 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Campfire Stories & Nighttime Reflection
🌌 10:00 PM: Quiet Hours / Stargazing
🌞 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Sunrise Reflection & Scout’s Own Service
🥞 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM: Breakfast & Trail Cleanup
🥾 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Final Trek Back to Base Camp
🏕️ 12:30 PM: Closing Remarks & Departure
✅ Orienteering & Navigation Challenge – Scouts must work in teams to navigate the trail using only maps & compasses!
✅ Survival Skills Mastery – Learn how to build emergency shelters, purify water, and start fires without matches.
✅ Backcountry Cooking Contest – Each patrol will cook meals using only what they carry, with a special prize for the most creative dish.
✅ Wildlife Awareness & Tracking – Learn how to identify animal tracks, recognize safe plants, and respect nature’s balance.
✅ Leave No Trace Training – Reinforce the principles of responsible outdoor ethics.
🎒 Backpacking Gear: Pack, sleeping bag, tent/hammock
🥾 Hiking Boots: Waterproof & broken in
🥤 Water & Filtration System – Scouts must carry at least 2L of water & a purification method
🍽️ Lightweight Cooking Gear – Small stove or mess kit
🗺️ Compass & Map – Required for orienteering challenge
🧥 Weather-Appropriate Clothing – Layered for warmth/cool conditions
