🌲🏕️ Troop 9 Great Wilderness Trek & Campout – Event Recap! 🏕️🌲
📅 Date: May 16-18, 2025
📍 Location: Bear Creek Wilderness Reserve, Green Mountain National Park
🎯 Theme: “Into the Wild: The Ultimate Trekking Experience”
Troop 9 just wrapped up an amazing weekend in the great outdoors, and what a trek it was! Over the course of three days, our scouts put their survival skills to the test, hiked through rugged terrain, and created memories that will last a lifetime.
Here’s a look back at some of the most exciting and funniest moments from our adventure!
🥾 Epic 15-Mile Hike – Scouts navigated the wilderness with only maps and compasses, proving their skills in orienteering. Some minor detours led to unexpected scenic views (and a few extra miles for a couple of patrols!).
🔥 Survival Skills Challenge – Building shelters, purifying water, and fire-starting without matches were put to the test. Shoutout to Patrol Phoenix for making the biggest and most creative shelter—even though it slightly collapsed on them in the night!
🍲 Backcountry Cooking Contest – Who knew scouts could be such great chefs? Patrol Thunder whipped up a legendary “Mountain Mac & Cheese” while Patrol Bear Cubs made an attempt at wild berry pancakes (we’ll just say… at least they tried!).
🌌 Campfire Stories & Stargazing – Nothing beats a classic campfire under the stars. Scouts shared ghost stories, sang songs, and watched for shooting stars. Sam and Jake swore they saw a UFO, but it was probably just a plane!
🐾 Wildlife Encounters – Scouts spotted deer, a family of raccoons (who may have stolen someone’s trail mix), and even fresh bear tracks—luckily, no actual bear sightings!
🏆 Troop 9 “Survival Champion” Award – Congrats to Ethan W., who showed outstanding leadership, teamwork, and determination throughout the weekend. Whether helping fellow scouts set up camp or leading the navigation challenge, Ethan truly embodied the Scout Spirit!
😂 Lost Boot Incident – During a river crossing, Liam’s boot got stuck in the mud… and when he pulled his foot out, his boot stayed behind! It took three scouts and a lot of laughter to retrieve it.
🌲 “Tree vs. Tent” Battle – One patrol set up their tent way too close to a leaning tree, which decided to gently tip over during the night. No injuries—just some very surprised scouts waking up with branches in their tent!
🔥 The “Tiny Fire” Mishap – Despite the fire-building competition, one scout (not naming names… but we all know who!) spent 30 minutes trying to light a fire, only to end up with the smallest flame ever. But hey, it still counted!
💬 “This was the best campout ever! I can’t wait to do another long trek!” – Dylan R.
💬 “We need a rematch on the cooking contest… I promise we’ll bring actual pancake mix next time.” – Logan B.
💬 “I learned so much about survival, and I actually liked hiking! Who knew?” – Mason T.
Troop 9 proved once again that they are resilient, adventurous, and full of Scout Spirit. Whether it was hiking, laughing over campfire stories, or braving the wilderness, every scout walked away with new skills and even better friendships.
